The need to share and the fact that I like you.

Today my mom gave me some sass about the fact that I haven’t written on here in almost a month. First of all, I didn’t even realize she read this thing unless I sent her the links. High five to that.

A couple of weeks ago, Terrell (@texast) tweeted this:

I almost tweeted something that falls in the TMI category. Decided not to, but will blog about it later! I must share. what’s wrong w/me?

I feel the same way: I can’t shake the pull to document and share. This week’s break from Twitter helped ease that knee-jerk desire to post a thing when it happens. It makes it easier to be present and enjoy that thing in the moment without worrying about how to communicate it as a digestible snack.

This bit of text from the header of Ze Frank’s blog says it well:

This is my blog. Sometimes I don’t write for a while, that usually means I’m doing something else. I didn’t forget about you though. I like you.

I do like you. When I take breaks from sharing, I start to feel like a hyperactive little kid - wiggling in my seat, ansty to ask you things and tell you  what I learned today. I miss the conversation. We’ll talk soon.

Is your immediate reaction to interesting haps in your life to document and share them? If so: is that a new thing, or has it always been the case?

No sleep ’til

Lots of you know this by way of Twitter or Dopplr, but in case you don’t - I moved from Dallas to Brooklyn last week.

Please get a load of this supercool graffiti from around my block (snapped with my phone, because I don’t own a legitimate camera):

…and this last one isn’t really graffiti, but either way, I appreciate where the building’s heart is:

It’s easy to be inspired here. I like it a lot.

Vote Filene 2006

Our buddy Robbie Wright just let us know that Filene.org has been added to the Thumb Up/Thumbs Down section of web design showcase Unmatched Style. This means it’s up to be featured on the homepage, which is kind of a big deal.

What does this mean for you? If you love (or even really like) Filene’s design, and think it deserves a pat on its shapely caboose, please go vote (10 stars = “thumbs up”).

Thanks in advance for your help. Honestly, we’re already all aflutter at just the prospect of it being featured. Unmatched Style truly is a beautiful thing.

Hey, I scored a Savvy Award for the City of Bryan

BRYAN, TX (Sept. 7, 2004) – A City of Bryan publication has received a national industry award for its excellence in design and purpose. At the annual conference of the City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) held Sept. 1-3 in Denver, CO, the City of Bryan was presented the prestigious Savvy Award for its Mayor’s Downtown Impact Award brochure and nomination form. The piece edged out finalist cities Plymouth, MN, and Ventura, CA, in the population category of 65,500-145,000.The brochure was designed by Trabian Creative Director Brent Dixon, who, while a student intern in the city’s Media Specialist’s Office, was simply instructed to be as creative as he wanted to be. Dixon joined Trabian as Creative Director in June 2004.

Savvy Award judges were extremely complimentary of Dixon’s creativity, saying, “We like the imagery, use of photographs, the depth, texture and multi-use design. It serves two purposes – to inform and to provide an entry form with the handy detachable piece. This student designer has a bright future”

The Mayor’s Downtown Impact Award brochure is currently available at First National Bank in Bryan, at business locations in Historic Downtown, and at city hall. The cover design of the Mayor’s Downtown Impact Award brochure also can be viewed at www.bryantx.gov.
