A word or two from Charlie Chaplin

This inspired speech from Charlie Chaplin was delivered sometime during WWII. Over fifty years later, it’s still as poignant and relevant as ever.

“We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in.”

“Machinery that gives abundance leaves us in want.”

“We think too much but feel too little.”

“More than machinery, we need humanity.”

“More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.”

One commenter responded, “If only people would listen and do, instead of listen and forget.” That’s really the trick, isn’t it?

I have never heard Charlie Chaplin speak before. He’s always been a silent movie actor. That was a little weird, sort of. Like if I heard Marcel Marceau speak.

This speech is from the end of “The Great Dictator” (1940) which is a great movie. Check it out - It’s inspiring to watch this Hollywood legend make fun of the most evil person in the world at the time - Hitler - when most were scared to.
